Nature’s Song The Conception of the Series - 2012 The quest for originality is always at the forefront of my artistic journey.

I had been developing my style of painting trees in my “Branching Out” series for several years.  As I immersed myself in the process of making the marks of the bark, I had an enlightened moment.  It occurred to me that the marks resembled the sheet music that I had purchased the previous year at a used book sale.

The collage series began.

The interplay between the positive and negative spaces of the branches and the background enhance the movement within the works.  The undulating shapes of the hand torn sheets of music and their aged patina add to the visual diversity and aesthetic of each piece.

I was working on one of my first pieces when a girl and her grandmother came into my studio.  They were intrigued by my use of the music notes for the trunk and the branches of the trees.  The granddaughter was selecting a work of art for her Bat Mitzvah gift from her grandparents.  I was elated with the indelible impression that the grandmother was making about the joys of creativity and the arts.  She chose the piece and I want to share with you the heartwarming words from her grandfather that I inscribed on the back.

“May you grow as strong as the trees on the land Genesis 1 Verse 11 and live amidst a forest of friends, and carry a song in your heart that sings without end.”
